AKWESASNE MOHAWK POLICE IDENTIFY BODY FOUND IN ST. LAWRENCE RIVER

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service has identified the body of a man that was found in the St. Lawrence River on July 3, 2023 in the area of Ross Island, Akwesasne.

 

The coroner’s office has provided confirmation that the individual is Casey Oakes, age 30 of Akwesasne, who went missing in March 2023. We wish to extend our condolences to Casey’s family and thank them for their patience during a difficult time.

 

No further information will be released at this time.

 

The investigation into Casey’s death and the deaths of eight foreign nationals who were crossing the river by boat in March remains underway.
