MOHAWK POLICE SEIZE $10,000 IN FENTANYL
On Thursday (August 11, 2022) afternoon at approximately 3:30 PM, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police arrested three people in relation to a fentanyl trafficking investigation. The arrests, which took place at a business parking lot in Cornwall, Ontario, were the result of an investigation that lasted approximately six months.
The lengthy investigation, led by the Joint Investigation Team of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, identified a trafficking ring that operated from a supplier in Ottawa, Ontario, and culminated in Akwesasne where the lethal narcotic would then be sold as a “street level drug”.
During the arrest and conclusion of the investigation, police seized approximately $10,000 in fentanyl, approximately $7000 in currency, three cell phones, and a vehicle.
An Ottawa man has been charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.
One male subject of Akwesasne is charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime. An Akwesasne female is charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. All three subjects were held in custody to appear for a bail hearing at the Provincial Court at Cornwall, Ontario.
