MCA COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAM ANNOUNCES ARRIVAL OF MODERNA COVID-19 VACCINE
The Department of Health’s (DOH) Community Health Program is announcing that the first round of doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine have arrived in the jurisdiction of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA). As previously announced, residents and staff in our long-term care (LTC) facilities, Tsiionkwanonhso:te and Iakhihsohtha, will be given priority in receiving the vaccine.
After residents and staff in the LTC facilities have been given the option to receive the vaccine, priority order will be followed for MCA staff wishing to receive the vaccine: first responders, frontline workers (i.e. healthcare personnel), then staff deemed essential. The DOH would like to issue a reminder that the first round of vaccine supply is limited. As more vaccine supply becomes available, more staff will be given the opportunity to receive it. Also, after receiving the vaccine, those recipients will still be required to wear masks and maintain social distance when out in public.
The DOH will provide follow up communication when MCA staff and community vaccine clinics are scheduled. The DOH does not yet have an anticipated date for the community vaccine clinic at this time.
