SPRING CLEANING SAFETY TIPS FROM THE AKWESASNE MOHAWK POLICE SERVICE

Spring cleaning is right around the corner and the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service would like to remind the community to be aware of some hidden dangers that you may encounter while cleaning in your neighborhood.

1. HYPODERMIC NEEDLES & SYRINGES: If you located a syringe or hypodermic needles please do not touch it and contact your local law enforcement agency. Officers are trained to deal with this type of biohazard.
2. SUSPICIOUS POWDERS OR PILLS: Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid. This drug is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine, even a tiny bit can be fatal. Fentanyl can be absorbed into the body via inhalation, oral exposure or ingestion, and skin contact. If you observe suspicious powders or pills contact your local law enforcement agency immediately and do not attempt to move or transport these substances.
3. SUSPICIOUS BOTTLES CONTAINING FLUIDS: Methamphetamine (Meth) is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Bottles and cans are now being used as makeshift drug labs to produce meth. These chemicals used to produce meth may cause toxic fumes or even explosions when mixed together.

If you observe something that you believe is suspicious contact your local police service immediately.
