AMPS SEIZE FENTANYL IN KANA:TAKON
On January 31, 2022, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service was working in partnership with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police on an investigation in the village of Kana:takon (St. Regis).
At approximately 12:25 PM, police responded to a disturbance call at a residence situated along the Canada-United States border in Kana:takon. Upon arrival, a male approached police in an aggressive manner holding a knife. The male was subdued and subsequently arrested.
The search of the male revealed over 11 grams of purple fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. Dylan J. David, 32, of Akwesasne was arrested and charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a controlled substance. The male was held pending a bail hearing at a later date.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid found in pain medication and is used to treat severe pain. Fentanyl is highly addictive and is often misused as a recreational drug. Fentanyl is often combined with other street drugs and can lead to an overdose.
