LAND-BASED HEALING PROGRAM PROVIDES CCVS STUDENTS WITH DRUM
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Land-Based Healing Program, a program within the Department of Health (DOH), provided a drum to the students at Cornwall Collegiate & Vocational School (CCVS) last week. Land-Based Healing Program Coordinator, Brandon David, and Akwesasne Child & Family Services (ACFS) Traditional Support staff member, Allen Smoke, had been working with CCVS students who established and participated in their own traditional singing group, bringing guest speakers and cultural workshops to the school’s faculty and students.
The singing group had requested a big drum for their group in order to offer more cultural activities within CCVS. The indigenous students at CCVS have hosted several cultural events and programs for the school’s faculty and students to participate, such as socials and traditional dance exhibitions. With the big drum, the group will be able to offer more cultural activities and events for the school.
