HONORING VETERANS AT AMERICAN LEGION POST #1479
On November 11th, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne proudly presented a $35,000 cheque to the American Legion Post #1479. This presentation took place on Veterans Day in the United States, and Remembrance Day in Canada. The donation will support the paving of the American Legion parking lot, ensuring the facility remains accessible and welcoming to the community. On this special day, alongside veterans, their families, and friends, the Legion also hosted a meal for attendees.
Grand Chief Leonard Lazore remarked how on this day it was befitting to present the Legion with the cheque as “the sacrifices of our Veterans allow us to stand here together in peace and unity, and for that, we owe them a profound debt of gratitude.”
Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, Post #1479 is more than just a building—it’s a gathering space where community events, from baby showers and softball tournaments, to fundraisers and celebrations, bring us together. This donation reflects our commitment to honoring the legacy of our Veterans and the role the American Legion Post #1479 plays in our community.
We were proud to be part of the celebration and hope that this donation helps support their efforts in paving the parking lot.
