DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ANNOUNCES OPENING OF SATELLITE MEDICAL CLINIC IN TSI SNAIHNE
Tsiothohrhkó:wa/January 6, 2025 — The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Department of Health (DOH) is proud to announce the opening of a satellite medical clinic in the district of Tsi Snaihne. DOH staff and administration have been working diligently for several months to see this initiative come to life.
Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, and collaboration between various departments within the DOH, the Tsi Snaihne Medical Clinic will open its doors in January 2025.
The Tsi Snaihne Medical Clinic (TMC) will temporarily be housed in the Iakhihsohtha Lodge in an area adjacent to the main Lodge lobby and away from the residents, following all safety and health precautions to keep the totas safe and secure from any possible spread of illnesses from the clinic. The TMC will have its own secure entrance and entry procedures, as well as identified parking spaces for clinic patients.
“The Associate Directors within the Department of Health have been working collaboratively for several months to see this endeavour to completion,” said Chelsea Swamp, Associate Director of Continuing Care Services. “We have had many discussions and have worked to cover all of our bases to ensure our tota’s in Iakhihsohtha will be safe and comfortable with the new addition of the medical clinic within the Lodge.”
The TMC will provide various medical services throughout the week, such as primary care, rapid/same day appointments, blood work clinics, immunizations, diabetes prevention and care services, and much more.
“The Department of Health is taking every step to ensure the quality of care is on the same level as those services provided at our other medical care sites, and to reduce the need to travel to other districts for medical care,” said Brigitte Pulice, Associate Director of the Clinical Care Services Sector. “Our goal is to ensure that the residents of Tsi Snaihne receive the highest level of quality healthcare service.”
DOH Administration and Associate Directors have been working diligently with the Health Portfolio Chiefs to see the TMC open its doors to the residents of the district of Tsi Snaihne.
“The health of our community is vitally important,” said Chief Theresa Jacobs, who sits on the Department of Health Portfolio. “I’d like to thank the entire DOH team for their hard work and dedication to seeing this initiative to completion, and ensuring that the health and wellbeing of our community members remains a priority.”
“I want to sincerely thank the Department of Health for their dedication and perseverance in bringing the Tsi Snaihne Medical Clinic to life,” said Chief Tesha Rourke, who also sits on the Health Portfolio. “Their hard work ensures that our community members will have access to healthcare services in the district of Tsi Snaihne. This clinic will ease the burden of travel for many families and provide a space for compassionate, high-quality care. It truly represents a step forward for the well-being of our district, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality.”
A ribbon cutting ceremony has been scheduled for January 22, 2025, to celebrate the opening of the new Tsi Snaihne Medical Clinic. More information on the ribbon cutting ceremony will be announced once that becomes available.
