MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Infrastructure, Housing, and Environment (DIHE) will provide professional project delivery of service to the community in planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining all community buildings and infrastructure.
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
DIHE coordinates the conceptual planning, design, and construction of capital facilities and infrastructure as well as municipal services. The department, management, and technical personnel coordinate all phases of construction and renovation to all MCA facilities. As well we provide capital needs planning, identification, and oversight of MCA construction projects, and development and enforcement of community standards for construction safety and labor codes. All programs pertaining to the delivery of service are included below for the community’s information.

Programs and Services
Management
The Management within the Department of Infrastructure, Housing, and Environment is the central location for specific contacts to other programs within the department. Management is responsible for implementation of all capital projects approved by the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. As well as providing oversight and coordination functions for community infrastructure planning and maintenance programs.

The DIHE Housing Sector is established to develop and implement a fair and equitable housing policy and to ensure that the members of the Akwesasne community have equal access to affordable and quality housing.

Building & Infrastructure
Building & Infrastructure Maintenance personnel monitor the service connections of private residences, plan, coordinate, implement and supervise renovations and maintenance to all facilities. Our maintenance crews use a computerized maintenance management system to ensure safe and efficient operation of the all community assets within the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. Building & Infrastructure Administration oversees and manages the maintenance of the Water & Waster Water Infrastructure, Educational Facilities, Department of Health, Department of Community & Social Services, and other MCA facilities.

Public Works (Roads)
The Roads Program personnel maintain 66 miles (105 km) of infrastructure as well as three bridges within Akwesasne. Operations include grading, sanding, snow removal, road repair, general maintenance and emergency response. Our road crew is on-call 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.

Environment Services
The Environment Program strives to better understand, protect, maintain, and enhance the natural environment of Akwesasne. We acknowledge the contributions of all elements of creation and strive to ensure that projects within our community adhere to safe environmental practices while keeping aware of current environmental and health issues. We are also committed to sharing knowledge of our Environment through Education and Connection to Community.
