AKWESASNE EMERGENCY CURFEW LAW RESCINDED

CONTINUED SAFETY MEASURES ENCOURAGED

On May 31, 2021, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne voted to rescind the Akwesasne Emergency Curfew Law.  Therefore, the curfew hours and the travel radius will no longer be in place as of June 3, 2021.

This decision was made based on the local trends of decreasing COVID-19 cases and the increasing rate of vaccinations. Council encourages all Akwesasne community members, and especially those who are not yet fully vaccinated,  to continue practicing safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Akwesasne has not yet reached herd immunity which requires 70-90% of our community to be fully vaccinated. Please continue to encourage anyone who is not fully vaccinated to get vaccinated for the health and protection of yourself, your family, and the whole community.

Please continue practicing the following safety measures:

  • Social distance yourself from others when in public (6 feet/2 meters)

  • Wear a mask in public

  • Stay home and quarantine when sick

  • Respect the gathering limits

Remember that we are each responsible to do our part to protect Akwesasne and our individual actions do make a difference. Council thanks each and every community member for their ongoing patience and commitment to keeping each other safe.  We are all in this together and the health and safety of our community continues to be our highest priority.
