AMPS MEDIA RELEASE: FORMER AMPS CHIEF OF POLICE PASSING
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Francis of Kawehno:ke, and former Chief of Police for the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS). William Francis passed away on December 27, 2024 at the age of 91.
William Francis served as AMPS first Chief of Police with distinction in the 1970s, dedicating his service to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. His leadership, commitment to justice, and dedication to public service have left an indelible mark on the Police Service and the community of Akwesasne.
William Francis is remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication to serving others. He leaves behind him as being an integral part of the inception of what Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is today.
AMPS extends its condolences to William Francis’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. As William begins his journey into the spirit world, his contributions to public safety will not be forgotten.
