AMPS RELEASE: TWO ARRESTED, ONE WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH MARCH 2023 INCIDENT
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service Joint Investigation Team, comprised of AMPS, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), has been assisting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in coordinating the arrests of individuals connected to the tragic drowning events in March 2023.
On August 22, 2024, Stephanie Square of Akwesasne was arrested. On August 28, 2024, Rahsontanohstha “Storm” Delormier of Akwesasne was also arrested. Both individuals were apprehended on provisional warrants and are currently facing extradition to the United States.
An outstanding warrant has been issued for Dakota Montour, age 30, who is believed to be residing in Akwesasne. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police are working jointly with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department (SRMTPD) to locate and arrest Dakota Montour. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police investigative teams remain committed to combating organized crime in and around Akwesasne. We will continue our joint efforts to ensure the peace and safety in Akwesasne as a whole and collaborate with other local law enforcement agencies.
