Community Call-Outs for Deputy Referendum Officers
TERRITORY OF AKWESASNE – The Chief Referendum Officer (Chief Electoral Officer)
Leona Benedict is posting this call out for interested individuals to submit their
applications for consideration to the position of Deputy Referendum Officers. To qualify,
the individual must:
a) be a Member eighteen (18) years of age or older;
b) not be a sitting member of Council or Justice of the Peace or Justice of the
Akwesasne Mohawk Court;
c) not be a sitting member of the Akwesasne Review Commission;
d) be in Good Standing under Akwesasne’s Good Standing Policy; and
e) have a criminal reference check, if selected as an officer going Door-to-Door.
The Deputy Referendum Officers will be responsible for administering the Door-to-Door
Voting Process to help Eligible Referendum Voters use Online Voting as part of the
referendum on the Tsikaristisere/Dundee Claim Settlement Agreement. Individuals should
either be comfortable using technology and/or comfortable with speaking to individuals
through unsolicited door-to-door canvasing. Deputy Referendum Officers will also manage
the Referendum Polling Stations to administer the in-person voting by paper ballot. Deputy
Referendum Officers may be requested to assist the Chief Referendum Officer with other
administrative tasks as assigned.
Eighteen (18) Deputy Referendum Officers will work a maximum of forty (40) hours per
week beginning October 1, 2018 for a total of ten (10) weeks until December 7, 2018. The
rate of remuneration for this position will be $15.00 per hour, based on schedule identified
by the Chief Referendum Officer.
One (1) Deputy Referendum Officer will work a maximum of forty (40) hours per week
beginning October 1, 2018 for a total of ten (10) weeks until December 8, 2018. The rate of remuneration for this position will be $15.00 per hour providing administrative support to the Chief Referendum Officer.
Eight (8) Deputy Referendum Officers will work at the Referendum Polling Stations on
December 8, 2018 starting at 8:30am until the unofficial results of the referendum have
been released. The rate of remuneration for this position will be $22.00 per hour.
Individuals interested in the positions that begin October 1, 2018, if selected, must be
available for one (1) week of paid training on September 17-21, 2018 during business
hours.
Individuals interested in the positions relating to the Referendum Polling Station voting, if
selected, must be available for one (1) day of paid training to be scheduled in November
2018.
Applications submitted for consideration of this position must include the following:
a) completed application form indicating the positions they are applying to;
b) a letter of interest signed by the applicant outlining how he or she meets the
qualifications, including any relevant background related to the position;
c) consent to verify Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Membership;
d) consent to run a Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Good Standing Policy check; and
e) consent to undergo a criminal reference check.
The deadline to submit completed applications is Friday, September 7, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
