CBSA STRIKE TENTATIVELY AVERTED

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has informed Akwesasne officials that the potential strike, which could have impacted our local CBSA Cornwall Port of Entry, has been tentatively averted.
Initial reports indicated that a nationwide strike was possible, potentially beginning June 6, 2024. However, ongoing negotiations between the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) have resulted in a tentative agreement for over 9,000 CBSA workers across the country.

This agreement is pending approval by union vote, but as this tentative deal has been reached, it indicates that strike action has been avoided. This ensures the continuity of services at our border, offering relief to travelers and businesses within our community. We extend our gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding during this period of uncertainty.
