COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAM TEMPORARILY UNABLE TO PROVIDE COVID-19 TESTING FOR TRAVEL PURPOSES

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Community Health Program (CHP) is notifying the community that the program is temporarily unable to conduct COVID-19 testing for leisure travel or border-crossing purposes. As of November 15, 2021, the COVID-19 Community Health Assessment Center will suspend testing for the purpose of pre-travel clearance.  

 

The Community Health COVID-19 Assessment and Testing site is limited to those who require testing for the following reasons: 

  • Individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 that are new, worsening, or different from an individual’s baseline health status. 
  • High risk/close contact exposures of a confirmed case who are symptomatic, as directed by a Community Health Nurse. 
  • Individuals who have been notified of inclusion in an outbreak situation, and are following directions given by a local public health authority/Community Health Program.

The CHP has prioritized the groups identified above as resources (human and time) to provide these services is very limited and there is a current high demand for testing. The Ministry of Health testing guidance documents excludes testing of asymptomatic (no symptoms) people for travel purposes. Anyone requesting a test for travel requirements is not eligible for testing through the Community Health Program Assessment Center.  This is only a temporary measure to shift resources and meet the current demand for symptomatic testing for individuals.
