Ionkwanonhsasetsi Adolescent Treatment Center (IATC)
The Ionkwanonhsasetsi Adolescent Treatment Center (IATC) serves as a multi-disciplinary drug and alcohol treatment service with an integrated case management component.
Ionkwanonhsasetsi, meaning “Our New Home”, was created as an Adolescent Group Home on Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island) in 1993 to address the concerns of community members about the infiltration of drug and alcohol addiction among Akwesasne youth.
The Ionkwanonhsasetsi Adolescent Treatment Center is open 24/7 and prepared to serve the community. The co-ed facility requires a referral from a dependency program; also, clients are required to detox prior to attending. Ionkwanonhsasetsi is only open for members of First Nations territories.
The focus at the IATC is on utilizing the traditional 12-step model, along with culturally-relevant and traditional knowledge, to aid in personal development, identity, and wholistic wellness when it comes to our youth. Contact Ionkwanonhsasetsi at 613-932-5050 or at iatc@akwesasne.ca.
