INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY
August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to raise awareness regarding the rising number of overdoses among our people and acknowledge the impact of stigma surrounding drug-related deaths. The SRMT Health Services Alcoholism/Chemical Dependency Program, Akwesasne Mohawk Police, and the MCA Wholistic Health & Wellness Program will be hosting a 2-day event to remember those we have lost and raise awareness regarding the opioid epidemic.
Join us on August 30th for Narcan training and a giveaway of purple light bulbs, luminaries, and t-shirts. We will be set up at the following locations:
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Snye Homemakers
12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Destiny’s Inn Parking Lot
2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Kanonhkwat’sheri:io Atrium
4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Across from Peace Tree Mall
You can then wear your t-shirt and bring your luminary to the Tewathahitha Walking Trail on August 31st at 7:30 p.m., where we will be displaying the luminaries and walking a lap to remember those we have lost.
We encourage the entire community of Akwesasne to wear purple on August 31st in support of International Overdose Awareness Day. #EndOverdoseAkwesasne
