We provide assistance to Mohawks of Akwesasne victims of crime and their families in areas which are not provided for locally.
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne has received funding from the Ministry of the Attorney General to establish a Legal Aid Clinic Pilot Project. The Project will provide assistance to Mohawks of Akwesasne victims of crime and their families in areas which are not provided for locally. A Legal Aid Coordinator will work with other agencies and programs, on and off-reserve, to establish a list of resources, programs and services for Akwesasne community members. This may include outside agencies which assist victims of crimes with appointments, legal counsel, and/or assisting with applying for Skennen (peace) Orders and Mediation within the community of Akwesasne.
Legal Aid
The Legal Aid Clinic will provide local civil remedies as well as establishing and documenting a list of agencies and processes which may assist Mohawks of Akwesasne to resolve issues resulting from being in a multi-jurisdictional community.

Intake Process
Call the Legal Aid Coordinator to see if you meet the criteria and to book legal services at the Akwesasne Court.
Once criteria for Legal Aid under the Legal Aid Clinic is met, the Legal Aid Coordinator will contact you by your preferred method of communication.
Together, with Legal Counsel, we can work with you to determine the best course of action.
