KINSHIP AWARENESS WEEK 2020
September 21-25 is Kinship Awareness Week, an opportunity for us to recognize the important role that kinship care provides to children in the community.
Kinship Service and Kinship Care are child welfare placement options, like fostering, for children and youth who need to leave for safety reasons. This living arrangement can be with a family member, community member, or someone who has a connection to the child such as a god parent, friend, teacher, or neighbor.
The benefits of kinship are numerous. When children are placed with kin, they remain connected to their family, community, and culture. Whether the arrangement is short-term or long-term, the focus is always on safety and well-being.
