LAND-BASED HEALING PROGRAM TO HOST WEEK-LONG SERIES OF EVENTS LEADING UP TO NATIONAL TRUTH & RECONCILIATION DAY
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Land-Based Healing Program will be hosting a week-long series of cultural art workshops during the week leading up to National Truth & Reconciliation Day on September 30th.
The National Truth & Reconciliation honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
The series of workshops will begin on Monday, September 23rd, and conclude on Friday, September 27th. Workshops will consist of various forms of art being taught by Akwesasronon artists who are renowned in their fields. Belt weaving, beadwork, clay pottery, and loom weaving will be the featured creative mediums.
