MCA CONTINUES MASK MANDATE
WILL REASSESS MANDATE ON MAY 1ST
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is informing the community that the mask mandate has been extended through the month of April. MCA has chosen to continue the mask mandate due to the increase in local positive COVID-19 cases, as well as an increase in cases and hospitalizations in neighbouring communities. MCA will reassess the necessity for the mask mandate on May 1st.
The mask mandate applies to community members and staff of MCA buildings, facilities, Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE) schools and buildings, and residents and staff of long-term care homes. Businesses operating within the jurisdiction of MCA are not included in the mask mandate.
The Recreational Facilities, Tri-District Elders, Homemakers, and the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena have all returned to 100% capacity and removed the mandate for proof of COVID-19 vaccine to enter. However, public health guidelines are still being followed within these facilities, such as mask-wearing, social distancing where possible, hand washing, and sanitizing after every use.
MCA continues to encourage the proper use of PPE for community members and staff in MCA facilities. MCA is providing PPE (disposable masks, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes) to community members at the Emergency Operation Center (located in the Kanonhkwa’tsheri:io Health Facility), Tsi Snaihne Recreation Center, and the Kawehno:ke Medical Center. The Community Health Program also has limited rapid antigen test (RAT) kits available.
To schedule a time to pick up PPE or RAT kits, please contact the Community Health Program at 613-575-2341 ext. 3220, the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Center at 613-575-2496, or the Kawehno:ke Medical Center at 613-932-5808.
