MOHAWK COUNCIL PASSES RESOLUTION ENDING OFFICIAL COVID-19 PANDEMIC RESPONSE
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) has passed Mohawk Council Resolution (MCR) 2024/2025 #220, officially ending the community’s COVID-19 pandemic response. This resolution rescinds MCR 2023/2024 #012, concluding the state of emergency and all pandemic-related efforts. This marks a significant milestone as the COVID-19 pandemic response for Akwesasne is now officially over.
Throughout the pandemic, MCA staff worked tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of Akwesasne. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) played a critical role in protecting the community during the crisis. The Department of Health (DOH) operated mobile vaccine clinics, providing timely access to updated COVID-19 vaccines, and operated a mobile testing unit that efficiently served all three districts in the northern portion of the community. In addition, the DOH consistently shared daily updates and essential information to keep the community well-informed. These proactive measures demonstrated the dedication of our teams in responding to unprecedented challenges.
The pandemic also emphasized the strength of partnerships within Akwesasne, particularly the collaboration between the MCA and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. These joint efforts played a key role in supporting Akwesasronon, while enhancing communication and cooperation. Although the pandemic was challenging, it truly reinforced our sense of community and resilience.
As we return to normal operations and deactivate the EOC, the MCA remains committed to staying prepared for future public health challenges. The lessons learned from the pandemic will shape our future strategies and responses.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to Akwesasne’s pandemic response, from MCA staff to the community. Your dedication ensured the well-being of our people, and together we will continue to thrive.
