LAND-BASED HEALING PROGRAM WELCOMES NEW LAND-BASED HEALING SPECIALIST

The Department of Health’s (DOH) Land-Based Healing Program would like to welcome LaToya Rourke to the team. LaToya brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into her new role. 

LaToya Wahientha Rourke is a proud member of the Wolf Clan from the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation. She currently resides in the community with her husband Matthew Thompson and their five children. 

LaToya brings extensive traditional knowledge, cultural teachings, and academic knowledge to her new role of Land-Based Healing specialist. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management, as well as a Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Tourism. 

With years of experience, she develops and implements workshops and programming for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Land-Based Healing Program. She looks forward to collaborating with Akwesasronon artisans and cultural educators to meet her ultimate goal in aiding in the healing of intergenerational trauma through traditional teachings and fostering intergenerational wisdom and cultural knowledge.
