The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Special Needs Program is seeking a community representative from the District of Kana:takon to serve on the Special Needs Parent Advisory Committee for a three-year term.
The purpose of the Special Needs Parent Advisory Committee Members is to:
- Provide parent and caregiver perspectives to strengthen the planning, delivery, of the Special Needs Program;
- Ensure services and supports reflect the needs, priorities, and cultural values of the Akwesasne community;
- Promote safe, inclusive, and culturally appropriate supports for individuals with special needs and their families.
Eligibility of Committee Members:
- Be a registered member of Akwesasne or immediately eligible to be registered as a member under the Akwesasne Membership code (does not include probationary members)
- Have knowledge of Mohawk cultures and traditions
- Have good character, credibility and reputation in the Akwesasne community
- Not be convicted of an indictable offense in Canada or a Felony in the United States within 5 years prior to their appointment
- Reside in the District for which they were appointed, unless otherwise approved by the Board • Have a strong understanding in Special Needs along with safety and care.
- Willingness to participate in workshops, training sessions, webinars, etc.
- Willingness to participate in quarterly board meetings.
- Must be a Special Needs Parents and/or Caregiver.
