ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE ELDERS REGARDING SERVICES CANADA AGREEMENT IMPLEMENTATION UPDATE REGARDING OAS BENEFITS
Ohiarihkó:wa / July 14, 2010AKWESASNE MOHAWK TERRITORY - Service Canada has sent out letters to Elders in the districts of Kanatakon and Snye who have been part of the investigation of eligibility for OAS Pension. This letter outlines the steps involved in making a request for a file review or a reconsideration of the decision in your file and what you can expect to happen with your request.
This letter dated July 6th, is follow-up by Service Canada as part of the conclusion to the negotiated agreement between the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and Service Canada.
Last month, this information was relayed by the MCA and Hutchins Caron in two public information sessions held in the districts of Snye and Kawehnoke specifically for the Elders.
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne can assist you with understanding the information in the letter, and if needed provide Mohawk Translation.
A request for a file review, reconsideration for a decision in your file, or, a request to “Opt in” to the provisions of the agreement has to be done prior to August 9th. A request form is attached to the letter for your convenience.
Please contact the Mohawk Government office for more information or assistance with filling out the form and sending it in to Service Canada by August 9th. There is one Chief from each district who is knowledgeable about the requirements and provisions of the Agreement who can assist you.
