Akwesasne Election Appeal Board

Pursuant to the Akwesasne Election Law 2005/2006-192, the Chief Administrative Officer for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is posting a call out for six interested Eligible Voters to sit on the Akwesasne Election Appeal Board, which will consist of two members from each of the three Districts.
In accordance with the existing Akwesasne Election Law, the necessary qualifications for individuals to apply and serve on the Akwesasne Election Appeal Board are:
- have attained eighteen years of age;
- be a resident in the District of Kanatakon, Kawehnoke or Tsi Snaihne;
- be a registered member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne;
- be Onkwehonwe; and
- not be member of Council, Justice of the Peace, Justice of the Mohawk Court or an employee of the Justice Department;
- ability to speak and understand the Mohawk language is an asset;
- previous experience as a Deputy Electoral Officer is also an asset.
The successful applicant must abide by and uphold all provisions of the Akwesasne Election Law. The applicant will also be required to:
- attend all training sessions;
- complete and sign an Oath of Office;
- review all submissions and documents filed with an appeal;
- render a decision in accordance with the Akwesasne Election Law;
- treat all matters and evidence as confidential unless otherwise instructed by Law;
- Notify the general public of any decisions or relevant action of the appeal as required by law;

Successful applicants must be reliable, impartial and courteous to all electors, members and the public.
Applicants can submit their letter of interest to the Chief Administrative Officer located at the Administration Building #1 in the village of Kanatakon, or the letters can be mailed to:
