On September 8, 2015 the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE) welcomed Donna Wahienha:wi Lahache as Interim Director of Education.  Lahache has over twenty-five (25) years of education experience in teaching, consulting, and leadership.  Previously, Lahache had been principal of Tsi Snaihne School for over three (3) years. Her education includes one Bachelor’s degree in Education and two Master’s Degrees in Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology. She has also obtained her Principals and Directors licensing from Six Nations Polytech.

Lahache acknowledged, “I have a lot of respect for previous director, Dr. Barry Montour, as he was my mentor.  Although I am happy to be back in Akwesasne, I wish it were under better circumstances. I worked for him in the past and will continue to carry out his vision”.

For the last six (6) years Lahache has primarily been focused on creating strong language and cultural programs for community schools. Her priority is to ensure that language and culture has a solid presence within the curriculum.  She is hoping for an easy transition and is delighted to be back in Akwesasne.
