What Is A Dementia Friend?

Enniska /February 1, 2016

A Dementia Friend is someone who learns a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into simple actions that can help people with dementia live well.

Registering to become a Dementia Friend is easy and means joining a growing movement of individuals and workplaces who are increasing awareness and creating positive change.

If you haven’t already registered, please do so now. If you have, thanks for becoming a Dementia Friend.

What is Dementia Friends Canada?

Dementia Friends Canada is a national awareness and public engagement initiative. The aim is to create a more aware and informed Canadian population to dispel myths and reduce stigma about dementia. You’ll also learn about the types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s.

Dementia Friends Canada is part of an international movement inspired by the Dementia Friends United Kingdom program which was modeled after Japan’s Dementia Supporters.

In support of the Cornwall & Area Alzheimer Society latest initiative “Become a Dementia Friend”, the staff at Tsiionkwanonhso:te (LTC) are hosting an education session in March 2016 (date to be determined) with the Alzheimer Education coordinator.

For more information, please check out the Alzheimer Society website.

In an effort to ‘fill the house’, we are asking for your input as to the most convenient day and time to encourage your participation. This invitation is extended to those individuals who interact with community members.
