Seskeha/ August 9, 2016

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that the 2016 Statistics Canada Census of Population has now concluded. Since April 2016, thirty-six community members were employed and more than half of the households in Akwesasne completed the voluntary census questionnaires.

As information is still being processed, the official response rates will be communicated to the Grand Chief and Council at a later date. For the full 2016 Census Program release schedule visit The final data compiled from Census 2016 will not be released until 2017.

As responses were not collected from every household, Statistics Canada may not be in a position to publish data at the community level. Statistics Canada will continue to maintain an on-going dialogue with Grand Chief and Council to meet Akwesasne’s information needs and data services.
