NOTICE TO THE COMMUNITY

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Department of Tehotiiennawakon is actively seeking individuals who are interested in sitting as (an) Akwesasne Licensing Commission member.

The primary duty of the Licensing Commission is to administer the regulatory and licensing systems established under Akwesasne Laws, policies and regulations.

Please note: Representation from Tsi Snaihne has been filled.

THIS CALLOUT IS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBER REPRESENTATION FROM KANATAKON AND KAWEHNOKE TO SIT ON THE COMMISSION.

The Charter of the Akwesasne Licensing Commission, the Commission shall consist of three members to be appointed by Mohawk Council Resolution, as follows:

(a) One member from each of the Districts of Tsi Snaihne, Kana:takon and Kawehno:ke.

To qualify for appointment a person must:
a. Be a registered member or immediately entitled to be registered as a member of Akwesasne under the Akwesasne Membership Code, (does not include probationary members);
b. Be eighteen (18) years of age or older;
c. Possess good character, credibility and reputation in the Akwesasne community;
d. Must not be a member of Council;
e. Have an adequate educational background or business experience;
f. Not have been convicted of an indictable offence in Canada or a felony in the United States within ten (10) years prior to their appointment; and
g. Reside in the Territory of Akwesasne over which Council has jurisdiction.

Each member will hold office for a term of three (3) years.
