NOURISHING KNOWLEDGE, STRENGTHENING SOVEREIGNTY WITH ONKWE

Onkwe recently held its second annual Nation to Nation Food Sustainability Conference, a powerful step toward reclaiming our food systems and restoring the balance between land, culture, and community.

Over the weekend, Akwesasronon and visitors gathered at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse to share knowledge on seed saving, traditional planting, rainwater harvesting, restoring Onkwehonwehnéha ecosystems, and more. Hands-on activities like mushroom cultivation, elderberry propagation, and a community swap provided participants with the tools to support food sovereignty at home. The event also featured a screening of Tentsitewahkwe, a film by Katsitsionni Fox.

This event was made possible thanks to the support of the MCA Department of Community & Social Services and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Agriculture Program. Niawenhkó:wa to everyone who attended, presented, and shared their skills.

By learning from the past and working together in the present, we are planting the seeds for a stronger, more sustainable future! 🌍
