POLICE ACTIVITY REPORT — JANUARY 7, 2020

IMPAIRED OPERATION
On Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at 6:00 AM, Akwesasne Mohawk Police received a report of a vehicle parked on the side of the roadway on the area of Hilltop Drive and Third Street in the village of Kana:takon, Akwesasne, Quebec.

Police located the vehicle and spoke to a female who appeared to be sleeping in the driver seat. In conversation with the driver, police detected the odor of an alcoholic substance. An investigation lead to the arrest of the driver for operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
Krystal Myiow, 32, of Kahnawake, Quebec, is facing the alleged charge of Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She was released on a Promise to Appear in Valleyfield court at a later date.


DANGEROUS OPERATION, IMPAIRED, OVER .80
On Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at 3:50 AM, a motorist attended the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service to report a vehicle collision in the village of Kana:takon. The suspect vehicle fled from the scene and was driving erratically. A description of the vehicle was provided to police.
Police located a vehicle matching the description in a public parking area. It was observed that the vehicle was still running and a male individual was observed walking away from the vehicle.

Police spoke to the male suspect and detected the odor of an alcoholic substance. A subsequent investigation revealed that the male was the driver of the vehicle and placed under arrest.

Carl George Thompson Jr., 20, from Akwesasne is facing the alleged charges of Dangerous Driving, Impaired Operation, and Over.80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.


CARELESS USE OF A FIREARM, UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, FIREARM IN A MOTOR VEHICLE, AND TRESPASS
On the evening of Thursday, January 2, 2020, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service was conducting traffic enforcement duties in the District of Tsi Snaihne, Akwesasne, Quebec.

At approximately 7:54 PM, police observed a vehicle exiting a private laneway with a dirt-covered unreadable license plate. A traffic stop was conducted to ensure the motor vehicle was properly registered.

Police spoke to the driver and passenger, both non-residents of Akwesasne who admitted to failing to report to Canada Customs prior to entering Tsi Snaihne. Both the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located a black 17 HMR long gun under the driver seat. Upon further examination, it was revealed that the firearm was loaded and contained an additional seven rounds of ammunition.

Police arrested Joseph Peter III Sokolowski, 20, of Brushton, N.Y., and John M. Butchino, 33, of Constable, N.Y., with firearm-related offenses contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Both suspects were also charged with Trespass on an Indian Reserve contrary to the Indian Act.
