UPDATE ON MCA WATERMAIN LEAK

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that the watermain leak on Kawehno:ke is more significant than initially anticipated and requires a General Contractor to address it. Due to limited Water and Wastewater Program resources and manpower, we are arranging for contractor availability.

Currently, approximately 15 homes are without water. Temporary pipes have been installed to provide service to other areas not affected by the main valve shutoffs. We encourage residents to check on elderly neighbors to ensure they have access to necessary resources. Additionally, residents in the District of Kawehno:ke, east of the Fire Station, are advised to continue boiling their tap water prior to use as a precaution.

Please be assured that we are actively working to resolve the situation. We do not have an estimated time for water restoration at this moment but will keep you updated with more information as it becomes available. Nia:wen for your patience and understanding.

For any questions, please contact Program Manager John Adams at 518-651-0068 or email water@akwesasne.ca.

Original Notice:

MCA wishes to advise the residents on the District of Kawehnoke, East of the Fire Station,  to boil their tap water prior to use as a precautionary measure, due to a watermain leak which occurred in the drinking water system overnight early on August 18, 2024. This PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY  and reduced water usage is in effect until further notice.

To avoid possible illness, you must bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Let the water cool down before using or drinking. Boiling the water will kill any harmful microorganisms that could be present in the water.
