APPLY FOR YOUR SECURE CERTIFICATE OF INDIAN STATUS (SCIS) CARD
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne invites the community to application intake sessions for Canada’s Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) cards. These cards simplify border crossings by serving as secure, scannable identification at ports of entry between Canada and the U.S.
The application intake sessions will be held:
Tuesday, December 3
St. Regis Recreation Center
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Wednesday, December 4
St. Regis Recreation Center
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Required Documents:
- Adult applicants (16+): Valid ID (e.g., passport, driver’s license, health card, or SCIS card).
- Minor applicants (15 and under): Only parent/guardian ID is required.
- Name change: Original marriage or name change certificate (no photocopies).
Photos will be taken at the session. SCIS cards are valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for minors. There is no cost for the card, and individuals are permitted to keep both their SCIS and paper-laminated cards.
Please note that these sessions are open to individuals who have already been issued a valid status number and SCIS cards will not be issued on-site; applications are forwarded to a secure facility and mailed upon completion.
Due to the large volume of SCIS applicants, the Office of Vital Statistics (OVS) will have limited service availability during these sessions. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Vital Statistics at 613-575-2250 ext. 1013.
