TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN SEIZURE OF 67 POUNDS OF CANNABIS
On the morning of Wednesday, December 18, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service was conducting traffic enforcement duties in the District of Tsi Snaihne, Akwesasne, Quebec.
At approximately 7:30 AM, police observed a vehicle exiting a private laneway and the driver appeared to be covering his face. As police continued to follow the vehicle it was observed that the rear license plate was also covered in snow. A traffic stop was conducted for the purposes of identifying the driver and to ensure the motor vehicle was properly registered.
Police spoke to the driver, a non-resident of Akwesasne who appeared to be nervous and admitted to failing to report to Canada Customs prior to entering Tsi Snaihne. The driver was removed from the vehicle and detained for further investigation.
Police observed three large cardboard boxes in the rear of the vehicle. One of the boxes was observed to contain clear plastic bags of what appeared to be Cannabis Marijuana/Marihuana. Police later obtained a search warrant and discovered 67 pounds of processed Cannabis Marijuana in the rear of the vehicle.
The driver, a 60-year-old male from Brasher Falls, New York was arrested and charged with Possession of Cannabis over 30 grams, and Possession for the Purpose of Distribution Contrary to the Cannabis Act.
