WHOLISTIC HEALTH & WELLNESS WELCOMES DR. MARSHA WYSOTE TO THE MEDICAL STAFF

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne would like to welcome Dr. Marsha Wysote to the community.

Dr. Wysote is originally from a small town in Northeastern Quebec, and is of mixed heritage: her father is Mi’gmaq from Listuguj, and her mother is Caucasian.

“Unlike many people with whom I studied, I did not ever dream of being a doctor,” Dr. Wysote says. “I started my studies in hopes to someday be a scientist or biologist. But all that would change when I was working with Public Health for the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay.”

Dr. Wysote is a recent graduate from a family medicine residency at McGill University, after successful completion of residency training out of St. Mary’s Hospital in the Cotes des Neiges area of Montreal, where her focus was predominantly Community Medicine. Dr. Wysote completed three (3) months of her residency in Akwesasne, finishing in January 2021.

Dr. Wysote’s particular areas of interest are in musculoskeletal/sports medicine and palliative care (individuals living with serious illness). When not in the clinic, she likes to keep herself active by running on the treadmill or weight training.

“I look forward to working with community members here in Akwesasne, and I hope you are willing to teach me about your culture.”
