WATER/WASTEWATER PROGRAM HONORED WITH NATIONAL RECOGNITION

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is proud to announce that the Water/Wastewater Program has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 National First Nations Water Leadership Award!

The National First Nations Water Leadership Award honours individuals or organizations that showcase excellence in advancing safe, clean, and reliable drinking water for First Nation communities—both today and for generations to come.

The nomination was put forth by Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict, recognizing the team’s leadership qualities, innovation, knowledge, creativity, and collaboration. Their professionalism, expertise, and unwavering commitment to ensuring access to safe drinking water in Akwesasne are a source of pride for the entire community.

Leslie Papineau, Director of the Department of Infrastructure, Housing, and Environment, noted, “This nomination is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and expertise of the Water/Wastewater Program staff. Their efforts ensure that our community has access to safe and reliable drinking water, and this recognition is well-deserved. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the positive impact they continue to have on Akwesasne.”

Shannon Roundpoint, Acting Executive Director, added, “We should all be incredibly proud of our Water/Wastewater Program team and the work they do to ensure we have safe drinking water.
