Community Call Outs

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne would like to appoint one (1) youth council representative, to represent the community of Akwesasne. 

Eligibility:  

The membership of the Akwesasne Youth Council shall consist of representatives, with a goal of equal gender composition, and staggered terms of two to three years. In order to be eligible to represent the Mohawks of Akwesasne, you applicants must: 

  1. Be enrolled or have an active applicant to be a Member of the Mohawk of Akwesasne, pursuant to the Akwesasne Membership Code;
  2. Be between the age of 18-29 at the time of appointment;
  3. Reside in one of the three districts of the Akwesasne: Kawehno:ke, Kana:takon or Tsi Snaihne;
  4. Must pass a Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) prior to appointment and not be convicted of any criminal charges during appointment term;
  5. Possess or be pursuing a high school diploma or general equivalency degree;
  6. Must be prepared to identify their vision and goals for Akwesasne youth. 

Responsibilities in accordance with the terms of reference: 

  1. Share ideas and issues, recommendations and/or solutions with MCA; 
  2. Liaise with Grand Chief and Council on a regular and as needed basis;
  3. Be committed to being a positive role model and promote a positive lifestyle;
  4. Be respectful to all;
  5. Support and work with Akwesasne youth initiatives. 

Please be advised there are additional responsibilities in accordance with the Terms of Reference. Individuals selected will be appointed as MCA Youth Representative through a Mohawk Council Resolution for a two to three-year term.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is seeking applicants to fill one (1) vacant seat on the Akwesasne Review Commission (ARC) representing the District of Kana:takon for a three (3)-year term. Applications are also being accepted for a pool of alternate members. 

The Akwesasne Review Commission is an independent body responsible for receiving, reviewing, and investigating complaints regarding the conduct of every Justice and every member of a Decision-Making Body, in accordance with the Charter.

DOWNLOAD THE CALL OUT FOR THE AKWESASNE REVIEW COMMISSION

 

The Akwesasne Representative & Advocacy Program (ARAP) is seeking artwork submissions from local Akwesasró:non artists to design two (2) murals for installation in the ARAP office areas at 55 Water Street West in Cornwall. 

These murals will help transform the space while strengthening cultural connection for community members accessing ARAP services. 

ARAP is requesting designs for two murals with the following themes and dimensions:

  • Mural 1: Mohawk culture, children, and family — 101”W x 70”H
  • Mural 2: Thanksgiving Address teaching mural — 161”W x 102”H 

Artists may submit for one or both murals and are welcome to submit multiple design concepts prior to the deadline. 

Submissions must include: 

  • A photo or digital copy of the mural design (please indicate which mural it is for)
  • Pricing to complete the mural, including cost for copyright transfer to ARAP

The MCA Environment Program is seeking experienced Log Pounders for potential Black Ash harvesting opportunities in Eastern Ontario. 

Interested Log Pounders are asked to have all necessary manpower and equipment to cut and harvest the Black Ash tree. 

MCA will not be providing tree removal services. 

Location: 

Eastern Ontario (traveling up to 150 km), depending on the opportunity.

A random selection process will be used for each opportunity.

Please note: Tree suitability is not guaranteed. Log Pounders are responsible for assessing site and forest conditions to determine if harvesting is worthwhile. MCA is providing access to potential opportunities only. 

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the Akwesasne Rights and Research Office are seeking community members to join the Claims Advisory Committee. This group supports Akwesasne’s Land Claim Negotiation Team by sharing community knowledge and guidance. Former members are encouraged to reapply.

Eligibility:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a registered Member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne
  • Must reside in one of the three districts (Kawehno:ke, Kana:takon, Tsi Snaihne) or the southern portion (Akwesasne, NY).
